The vast underwater world is full of amazing creatures and mysteries waiting to be discovered. It would be difficult for us to access this world without scuba diving equipment that allows us to breathe underwater for long periods of time. And one important person who made diving easy for everyone is Jacques Cousteau, the father of modern scuba diving, who transformed diving into an activity that anyone can experience.

Jacques Cousteau , from a boy who was passionate about diving to a legend of the sea
Jacques-Yves Cousteau was born in 1910 in France. He was fascinated by the ocean since he was a child and dreamed of exploring the vast underwater world. A turning point in Cousteau’s life was meeting Émile Gagnan, a French engineer who together invented the Aqua-Lung, the world’s first SCUBA (Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) diving device in 1943.
The Aqua-Lung was the forerunner to the scuba diving equipment we know today, allowing divers to breathe freely underwater for extended periods of time. The invention of the Aqua-Lung truly revolutionized diving. It opened the door to the underwater world, allowing humans to explore the wonders of the underwater world like never before.

Important works that the world remembers
Jacques Cousteau didn’t stop at inventing the Aqua-Lung. He also made many other important contributions to the diving industry and the conservation of the underwater world, such as:
- Making Underwater Documentaries: Cousteau made numerous underwater documentary films, including The Silent World (1956), which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. His films helped introduce the world to the beauty of the ocean and its importance to the marine ecosystem.
- Marine Conservation: Cousteau was an avid conservationist. He dedicated himself to protecting the oceans, campaigning to raise awareness of the effects of pollution, and working to conserve marine resources.
- Research and exploration: Cousteau led marine expeditions and research teams, discovering new species and studying marine behavior, information that is of great use for education and conservation.

A legacy of inspiration
Although Jacques Cousteau passed away in 1997, his work and spirit live on. He is an inspiration to divers, scientists, and conservationists around the world. His work helps us understand, appreciate, and protect our beautiful underwater world.
